No Business Like Snow Business
We're having our first big snow storm of the year. I'm at the office, carefully planning my commute home. Snow was more fun when I only worried about how long Mom would let me roll around in it before making me come back inside.

Do you hear that? No, you don't, do you?
I just fixed my toilet, which has been running slowly for the better part of a year. At first I pretended it was a relaxing fountain trickling in the background. It takes me a long time to take action, but I attacked that little rubber stopper with a fury.

Sunday
The problem with Sundays is that by the time I'm finished napping, all the stores have closed, everyone has gone home and I have nothing to do.

No Hat Day?!
I work in a secure office. On Halloween, in lieu of masks that cover faces and pose security risks, we have a tradition of wearing funny, cool, or interesting hats to the office. I was looking forward to it this year, and had purchased a way cool Pirate hat at Wal~Mart. However, it seems like we're not doing it this year after all. That makes me sad.

You have to listen fast, but it sure is funny.
A member of my gaming forum linked to a review of Halo 3. I have no interest in Halo 3 whatsoever, however that review is wildly entertaining. I found myself digging through all of the reviews on the site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Resident Fear
I watched Resident Evil this weekend - all three of them. Getting that much RE in such a short time, all the details of all the movies are very vivid in my mind. Here's my take.
Super Agent Alice fights to expose, stop, and eradicate evil weapons corporation. In the process she is subjected to repeated genetic manipulations which eventually grant her super powers. She is completely unafraid of man, woman, or undead beastie.
She is, however, quite afraid of bras and pants.

It's Chilly
Officially, summer ends at 9:21 AM on Sunday. However, we've had autumn weather since the end of August. Where did my summer go? The good news is I particularly like Autumn weather. My negative reaction to it is most likely due to my not expecting it. That might stem from a resistance to change.

Hate Bush?
I was playing Dungeon Runners last night and the topic of President Bush/War in Iraq came up. If you even occasionally poke your head from under the rock you know how that conversation went. My views on this topic are as follows.
I voted for Pres. Bush who was the best candidate, in my opinion, and I trust him to do his job. I do not have all the information needed to make the decisions he does, so I have no cause to dispute his.
That is not to say that I endorse war, although I was among the many, many citizens outraged by attacks on my country in 2001 and advocated sending our military out into the world to "teach them a lesson." Of course none of us really know who "they" are or what lesson is taught by meeting violence with violence.
However, I disagree with the drastic turn of public opinion and how popular it is to hate Bush right now. Is the general public really that forgetful?
It's almost time to choose a new president. I recommend we start now to read up on the issues and the candidates so we're ready when the time comes to make an informed decision that we can be proud of for the duration of their term.
DR is a fun game, by the way. It's great for folks that want to spend an hour or two a few days a week mindlessly killing demon spawn and perhaps engaging in conversation with the other players to relieve stress and boredom. We also discussed pastries.

Waves On The Ocean
Sometimes when I look at waves on the ocean, lake or river, it seems to me they're moving in the opposite direction that the water is flowing. That always mesmerizes me.

I Think I'm Done With Softball
This morning I looked at the sky and thought, "Please don't rain. I want to get [the softball season] over with."

Does This Milkshake Feel Like Love?
I noticed over the weekend that over-eating gave me a similar sensation to receiving affection. A few hours later it left me with a few other sensations that reminded me of heart break, not the least of which was an upset stomach.

Let There Be Light
Is there any good reason that the porch light doesn't have a switch on the outside of the door?

"Real life doesn't fit into tiny boxes that are drawn for it." -M. Night Shyamalan, Unbreakable
I struggle with this concept.
For instance, this morning I was very angry at a driver that was following me very closely, and who honked when I chose not to turn right at a red light. I wanted to get out of my car and walk over to his and tell him all the ways he was clearly wrong.
He was not considering the circumstances that led me to my actions. We all tend to see that in others. I was not considering his. We all tend to overlook that in ourselves.
So many things frustrate me that don't go the way they should. The way I think they should. I'm looking for life to fit into the tiny boxes I have drawn in my mind: those I was taught to draw, and those I decided needed to be drawn.

Normalcy
My boss said something beautiful to me yesterday, "Don't be normal. You wouldn't like being normal. We wouldn't like you if you were normal."

RE: Recording Industry Business Practice
This article came up randomly in the random article ticker on my gmail inbox. Following is an excerpt.
I've never heard it said or been able to say it myself any better than this. Most companies that deal in intellectual property currently focus on licensing the copies of the IP, not the IP itself.
Prince's latest gambit also succeeded by acknowledging that copies, not songs, are just about worthless in the digital age. The longer an album is on sale, the more likely it is that people can find somewhere to make a copy from a friend's CD or a stranger's shared-files folder. When copies approach worthlessness, only the original has value, and that's what Prince sold to the Mail on Sunday: the right to be Patient Zero in the copying game.
